Our Operation
Since the 1970’s, Shingle Oaks Polled Herefords has been a family affair. Melvin, Jackie, and their son Eric Allscheid started with a single 4-H project and have grown a passion for the Hereford breed ever since. Throughout the years, Eric, alongside his wife Cindie and children Cassie and Krista, have maintained the goal at the forefront of their operation to continually improve their genetics and cowherd. From attending state and national shows to working on the farm, The Allscheids are proud of their successful operation and servicing customers with their Hereford genetics.
We believe in the impact of a long-lasting female. The backbone of any breeding program goes back to the cow herd—giving our operation focus on producing phenotypic and genetically superior cows for our customers. “Quality bred over generations can’t be duplicated overnight.”
We recognize the importance of being competitive in the show ring but understand the priority of females’ performance in the pasture. We’ve spent decades on our craft, breeding the most proven A.I. sires to the best females we can get our hands on. We pride ourselves on being a 100% A.I. operation, using strict culling techniques that have resulted in a highly fertile herd. Proven progeny and success in the cow herd have resulted in our integration of Embryo Transfer into our 40-head breeding program.
Our Goals
We are a family operation that prioritizes long-lasting females that can outperform their moms. We pride ourselves in raising and selecting small teeted, tight-uddered cows with high-performing milk.
We take pride in all of our successes over the years, big and small. After a lot of years, miles & money, we are proud of the Hereford herd we have assembled. Herefords have been, and will always be the only breed…period!
Show Success
We prioritize long-lasting females that can outperform their moms. We try to be as competitive as we can in the show ring, but our main priority is making a cow after her show career. We look for structural correctness, calving ease, longevity, eye appeal and maternal traits for the show ring. Our family has attended many state and national shows over the years. We take pride in all of our successes, both big and small.
Congratulations!
Time sure flies when you are having fun! Our twin daughters were born in 2001 – Cassie & Krista – and the girls started playing a vital role in the operation at a young age. Over the years, a true passion was developed by the girls for the cattle business and Hereford cattle. Now, in 2023, we have two college graduates that we are so proud of!
Cassie graduated in May 2023 from Missouri State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agriculture Business. She currently works for ShowMe Genetic Services in Strafford, MO.
Krista graduated in May 2023 from Oklahoma State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agriculture Business. She worked for Perry Show Cattle and Austin and Harlie Perry in Mulhall, OK both during her years at OSU.
